#Scrivener windows 8 software install#
I am leaning towards complete removal of everything then starting again with the install of all the prerequisites before starting the installation of Scrivener for Windows beta 8. Adding an extra layer would complicate things. PlayonLinux does not have a script for Scrivener which means it will not change anything.

There are pages recommending Codeweaver Crossover but the Crossover Web site lists less success with Scrivener and only for old versions. There are pages recommending winetricks but the winetricks script broke. I followed Wine instructions for installing a recent version of. NET which means big problems and incredible version sensitivity, just like the ancient Java that. The Scrivener developers start on mac which means Unix which should mean an easy recompile to Linux. Originally there was a message about winbond then I installed that package and the error disappeared. There are no error messages from Scrivener in the system log or in Wine. The new version of Scrivener has extra features of use to me and the cost is not extreme. It has some advantages over the free open Manuskript. I have the old discontinued version of Scrivener for Linux working. The Wine Web site says the latest Scrivener works with old versions of Wine on old versions of Linux and old versions of Scrivener work on old versions of Wine on new versions of Linux. There are similar posts for Ubuntu but without the release details. Scrivener installs and starts then disappears with no error messages. Scrivener makes some these steps more difficult. I now use Libreoffice for straight writing and Manuscript for research, organisation, and assembly of chapters. Scrivener might have some weird output formats not in Manuscript but Manuscript makes writing easier than Libreoffice while Scrivener makes writing more difficult than Libreoffice. Update: After using Scrivener and Manuscript side by side, Manuscript is way better.
